United MileagePlus Explorer Guide to Benefits

Matching is not guaranteed anymore YMMV

Personal Card
Public offer in the Bank is 50K+5K                            Sign up for the 30+5K offer. You can get matched to the higher offer by sending a secure message after you are approved to be matched to the 55K + $50 offer that you say your colleague received.

If its your:
First time: After you sign for the 30k + 5k for adding an AU offer, you can SM Chase to match you to the 55k + $50 offer.
2nd+: Sign up with a new Frequent Flyer # (FFN), and SM AFTER receiving the first 30k. Make sure to create the new FFN with United BEFORE submitting the Application to Chase, or they'll default to your previous number, even if you leave the field blank.

Make sure to add an AU to receive the final 5k, for a total of 55k +$50.

Business Card
On the business card, you can get matched to 50k.
Follow the same process as the personal card.
Note: There is no 5k bonus for adding an AU to the biz card, so when you SM, make sure to ask to be matched to the 50k offer, not a 55k offer which doesn't exist for this card.

It could take up to a week to get a response from the Secure Message Center

Here is a link within your United account, which some DDFers have reported to received a 50k offer for the Explorer card, and the annual fee waived for the Club Card.

If u have a UMPE card and NO status, then you can do upgrades from a coach pts booking to bus/1st pts booking for just incremental pt + taxes, no fees. If you don't have the card they said they'd charge the all-dreaded rebooking fee of $100/person (always the chance to get it waived).

When merging accounts, what happens to the status on the two different accounts?  If, for example, I create a new FF to sign up for a Club card.  That new FF# will get Club membership, Priority boarding and baggage.  If I merge it back in to my original account, does it retain the benefits?

I believe they merge the accounts to the one with higher status. CMIIW.

I applied for my 2nd united card a few months ago, got the first 35k points on 3/24 and then sent a SM asking for the other 20K. They replied on 3/27 saying they would post them, they still haven't posted. is it risky to ask them why?

this was there response:

Thank you for contacting Chase regarding your United
MileagePlus® credit card account.

We have added an additional 20,000 bonus miles to your
account. The miles will be reflected on your next billing
statement.

If you have any further questions, please reply using the
Secure Message Center.

So, basically, there is no consensus on how to open a second UA FF#.

The wiki says to do it but doesn't say how to do it. Pretty useless.

Can someone with real experience getting this bonus twice please speak up?

+1....

No one is "speaking up" because it isn't rocket science.

Not sure if my Club passes ever came or if I lost them, so I called up Chase and asked if it was possible to get new ones and could they be expedited as I'm going on a trip soon and they said sure!
Showed up today via UPS with a handwritten letter :)

what did you do to earn them?

Please help! I had an United Explorer card and closed it in 9/2012. Now, I got a targeted offer for 55k+$50. I understand from reading this thread that I could create a new FF account and get 35k and then SM to match the higher offer. But I was wondering if I could just get the bonus by using my current FF# and I will directly get the miles and the credit. I really appreciate if someone could clarify this for me.

Follow the wiki at the top of this page:
Create a new FF account.  Get the bonus.  Merge the two accounts later.

Better yet, apply using Dan's 30k+$50 link with your new FF account.  Get the bonus.  Ask for a match.  Merge the two accounts later.
