Just received an email from Star-K regarding my milk inquiry and this was their response —

“milk does not need a hechsher in the USA“

I'd like to understand coke products outside of the US.  While in Mexico recently we avoided the coke and diet coke because all the agencies say not to drink coke products outside the US.  But then in a local,  certified,  well patronized kosher establishment they served local coke and diet coke.

You understood them to mean that it is no good outside of US or that you can't assume it is good outside US?

Coke is common enough problem that a local vaad is very likely to check into it. It is also likely to be a pretty straightforward product since it is a known syrup and the bottling is done cold. There may be a few possible issues but they can often be easy to find out about. That is my understanding from some conversations with people involved but they were from a number of years ago.

I know in South Africa the bottling plant is checked out. The syrups all come with a hechsher. I don't recall if there is a hechsher on the bottle, but I think all coca cola products were approved.

For a long time Pepsi was not approved as they did not allow the inspection. IIRC they are approved now as well.

There is a new item from Beyond Meat "Beyond Meat Jerky" it does not have any kosher symbol on it, does anyone have any info if it's kosher or not? Thanks!

i dont know anything about this hechsher but i know that the above link is 9 years old so its probobly a good idea to speak to someone you know from Michigan

has anyone heard of Springfield vaad hakashruth or Massachusetts kashrus commission under a Rabbi Shlomo Yaffe of Cong. B'nai Torah

BTW the CRC added this to their list at some point in the 3 years since I asked them.

Even though when I asked them, they said "We have no information on that hechsher." and when I asked them if they can find out they said, "Sorry, we do not have that ability."

Apparently the 2nd Ave Deli has switched hechshers.

I suppose this says more about the unreliability of IKC than the reliability of the 2nd Ave Deli.
