So... Let me get this straight.

If one day a Honda Accord costs $25K, and then the next week, the same Honda Accord is $2k less for $23k, it's not a "deal" because you're getting the same car? SMH

That's where MS comes into play. If it were $2k coming out of my pocket then yes, it's a deal to save that, but if its 1 swipe & I get it right back plus additional points then lowering the threshold is not "saving" me $2k. But to each their own.

Even MS has a cost.

Assuming the cost of MS is 1%, being able to unlock 25k SPG for $30 instead of $50 is a 40% savings.

That's an objectively substantial discount having nothing to with with "to each their own."

Yes. But it is a shift in their offering for the card bonus. Instead of offering 30k, they are offering a lower spend requirement for 25k. So--the bonus appears to be the same but the spend required is lower and offers a different "value" for a summer promotion.

But you SPEND less to get them. For someone who is not in MS, that's a bonus. And AJK is correct--it is still a savings if you are meeting spend via MS methods.
