I've heard this before in regards to how long it takes to get an appointment by a doctor.
I have regular insurance and it can take me months to see a doctor. So I don't buy it too much that our system is that much better.

Depends what doctor you’re referring to. I never had a problem getting a fast appointment with my primary care physician whereas in Canada or Britain it can take months.

From what I hear,  it's X-Rays that are the killer. Here, it can be easily done same day.

I'm sure in 50 years from now there will be many studies and books written about how more people died/lived in the years following COVID than ever died from COVID because of XYZ factor.

I assume one factor will be how many parents got turned off of vaccines, period.

Another may be the advancement from mRNA vaccines to combat a variety of illnesses.

The problem with the vaccine and Covid in general is it was politicized. That is never a good a thing. Everything gets skewed one way or the other.

The thing is, we laymen  predicted this would happen right on here on DDF. That the public health officials had their heads so far up their own collective tuchi is what is infuriating

We've had the discussion elsewhere. Numerous times. "It works" is too broad a phrase, there are numerous issues with how the vaccine was pushed and lied about, especially in regard to children. You imply it was politics that made people anti vax, but it was also politics that made officials mandate a rushed vaccine for kids who weren't in danger, and justified mandating a vaccine that didn't stop the spread of covid to stop the spread of covid. Among other issues.

I am not disputing how it was pushed or what you considered lied about. We are past all this.
So let's look at it this way with the information we now have. Is the vaccine a net positive?
I think you would agree the measles vaccine is a net positive?

ETA: If parents decide to put their kids at risk by not getting other vaccines because the way covid was handled then that is pure ignorance.

This isn't true. Many pediatricians still push the COVID vaccine HARD for kids.

We are dealing with an ignorant population, so that isn't surprising.

The medical profession was revered for decades maybe even centuries, but now... COVID gave it the biggest hit I can ever remember in my lifetime.

Politics. Do you trust your doctor less because of Covid? I just went through prostate cancer and Covid never entered my mind on deciding on what treatment.

for who?

First start with your risk factor for covid. If it is high (elderly immunocompromised etc.) then the potential side effects are outweighed by the potential risk of dyeing of covid.

If you are a kid (not immunocompromised) (low risk factor) there is no benefit to outweigh the risks.

If used responsibly it is a net positive.

I look at the vaccine as the top reason for that but not the only one. How about you (anyone)?

However they should still be used responsibly.
