From what people are saying you have a much  bigger chance of getting the second approval by letting it slide and waiting to see if somehow your approval on the second card slips through. Calling right away seems to be a guaranteed rejection for multiple apps

In general getting both approved seems to be a long shot these days

Did same. Got an email with an app id saying it's pending on the amex and I should call. Called and was approved. Applied for Visa, didn't even get an app id, said to wait a week. I called. They said you can't apply for both within 60 days bla bla.
