Got the below bonus offer in my inbox today. Looks like a great way to get 30k bonus. Citigold is $30/mo. fee with less than 50k deposited (or 100k w/ "Investments"). Figure it would take 3 months to complete the bonus costing $90 (or the lost interest on 50K) for 30k AA. Anyone else thinking of doing this?

many checking accounts have an early termination fee if you close the account within 6months of opening

I don't have the AAdvantage card, but I got a similar offer for my Citi ThankYou Preferred - 40k points with a Citigold account, 20k points with a Citibank account, and 10k points with a Basic Banking account.

And my deal doesn't include the requirement to spend $750, but the two bill payments are still required. (Can the bill payment be to myself? Or to a credit card?)

Note that the $30 monthly fee for Citigold is waived the first two months.

There's still time, but I haven't received a 1099 for my 2014 Citigold miles. Reports on FT from early 2014 were that no 1099s were issued for bonuses in 2013. I'll be sure to post back here if I do get one before the 31st.

I'm a risk taker and I always like adventurous. With that said.
I opened up the account today and this is what happened:
I called 866-810-9043 pressed 0 and was speaking with a rep. in less than a minute.
I asked about this promotion and got a conformation about getting 30k AA after spending $750 and making 2 bill pays.The account needs to remain open for 2 months and their is no early termination fee.
He told me that I should apply through the regular Citi bank website. I then when on to Citi.com and send up. After signing up I decided to confirm that the promotion was linked to my account. Guess what? It wasn't! No surprise at all. So I told the rep. that I got a conformation today and that's why I signed up. After a 10 minute conversation she confirmed with me that she added the promotion to my account, however this time she told me it was 50k AA after $1000 in spending.
We shall see what happens.....

See if you can call in and find out the promo code # that was assigned for the 50k, please.

Thanks. I noticed through a search of the internet the 50,000 offer for $1,000 spend has been around in the past, so it's probably a legitimate offer.

I called citi, they said bonus posts only after 5 months of account opening, must hold a balance of 50K otherwise you get charged $30 a month for the Citi gold checking account.
