I'm a little late to this discussion, but in addition to the points mentioned above, which I mostly agree with, keep in mind that the rebbi in that classroom is probably being paid at least double what the girls' teacher is. Wage discrimination is alive and well in our community.

Yes, in the temple there were 70 sacrifices brought, spread out over the course of sukkos as a "prayer" for the safety and wellbeing of the 70 gentile nations.
