Earning mileage: Infants (who don't pay for a full ticket) are not eligible to earn miles.

Luggage: Some people report that their friend or parent flew and got lucky. However, it's best to check with the Airline (on their website or calling them), BEFORE packing your suitcases. Here are some helpful links, plus a summary of baggage allowed for lap infants.
Child paying 10% of fare can check a small suitecase up to 10kg/20lb. Child paying 50%+ of adult fare can check standard baggage allowance (one full size suitcase 23kg/50lb) both are +stroller and car seat. One carry on + booster or infant seat + pump and cooler
1 chacked bag at same rate as adults first bag + 1 stroller + 1 car seat. 1 carry-on diaper bag per child is allowed + pump + milk cooler + (stroller??)
1 stroller + 1 carseat. carry on: diaper bag, pump, carry one size stroller, carseat
1 checked bag up to 50lb/23kg. 1 stroller 1 carseat. 1 carry on up to 13lb/6kg or a carry on size stroller
  • BA
1 checked bag 50lbs/23kg + two of the following: stroller,car/booster seat,travel cot,babyack carrier. 1 extra carryon bag.
  • ElAL
1 checked bag 50lb/23kg. 1 stroller or car seat. NO carry on. (its not like their makpid these days any way  :))
[/list]

Proof: Some airlines require proof of age. Rather bring along some kind of proof, and not get stuck because of an gate agent or TSA guard that had a bad day.

Infants are cute.

You're saying that it can be removed during the flight?

No. I'm saying I've heard people have had it removed. I wouldn't bank on CX letting you, though, given how much of a stickler they are for rules.

Ya, I'm not risking it.

Overnight flight with a lap child who's close to being two.

Is the bassinet even going to be worth anything at this age? First time I'm taking a baby along on a vacation.
What harness do people buy to hold on lap and attempt to sleep?

Thanks!

First time I'm taking a baby along on a vacation. It'll probably be the last as well

Thanks!

Why are people so reluctant to take a baby on vacation? Sure, the flight will be less enjoyable and you may not to do some of the activities that you would have liked to, but the memories of taking a family trip can outweigh all of that...

The way I see it, a "family trip" that's enjoyable only happens once your kids hit a certain age where they enjoy the trip as well.

We just took our 4 month old to the Caymans. Sure, she won't remember anything but it was memorable for us.

Never heard of anyone using that. Better option would be melatonin.

Of course, as long as you go in with the mindset that it will be a trip, not a vacation. I'm going on one tomorrow

I have a question for some of the experienced folks!

I'm planning on traveling to Europe for Pesach and would like to take a trip beforehand without the kids. I am trying to send a lap infant and child with grandparents on AA. However, the children will be in JFK and the grandparents are only CONNECTING in JFK but not originating there. Most agents have told me this is impossible, and my only option would be for the grandparents to originate in NYC. One nasty agent actually removed the infant from the itinerary, and notated the reservation to require a notarized letter!!

Any ideas??

If you're willing to pay for a ticket for the lap infant you'll be able to do it no problem. Barring that I doubt it will work

The reps claim that I can't even send my child (who has his own seat) with them, as no adult is accompanying the child. Is that correct?
