Kekwik and Pawan's study proves that calories from different sources affect the body differently. So it's the source and type of calorie that makes the difference as opposed to the amount. And if you will allot all of your limited calories to carbs you may even end up gaining weight.

From that study:
Quote
In such a study the difficulties are formidable . The first and main hazard was that many of the patients had inadequate personalities. At worst they would cheat and lie, obtaining food from visitors, from trolleys touring the wards, and from neighbouring patients. (Some required almost complete isolation.) At best they cooperated fully but a few found the diet so trying that they could not eat the whole of their meals. When this happened the rejected part was weighed, and the equivalent calories and foodstuffs were added to a meal later in the day. The results we report are selected, a considerable number of known failures in discipline being discarded.
Another factor of importance which could not be eliminated was that many patients were women, in whom the retention and the losses of water associated with the menstruul cycle affected the daily weight and the estimation of total body water. We were surprised to find how great such factors could be, amounting in one woman to the retention of more than 3 litres of water.

From that study:

Experiment 3: Increasing Calories, Proportions Changed

Kekwick and Pawan then came up with a 3rd experiment to confirm their findings, but this time rather than reducing calories form a normal diet, they increased them. After first finding a baseline stable weight on a 2,000 calories diet (all either gained or increased weight on a 2,000 diet over 7 days), they then increased the calories by 30% to 2,600 calories per day, but changed the proportion to high fat, high protein levels. Again in their words:
Quote
“It was demonstrated that these patients on the whole could maintain or gain weight on 2000 calories but except in one instance, lost weight consistently on a 2600 daily calorie intake.”

I am sure there are many arguments both ways each one with its own set of flaws. I was just struck by the way they write "of course not" when it is based on assumptions which they want.

It's just sensationalistic writing. The clickbait of the paper world.

But I'll disagree with you about the flaws of each one. There are studies that have shown a weight loss while consuming 3000 calories a day! It's about what you eat- not how much you eat.

Are we going to share every day what we ate? Separate thread? I'm excited. Not sure what diet I should do. I already did once the low carb one.

Do you really think that those do not have their own set of flaws? As with most things the truth is likely a mix between the different approaches and probably varies with each person.

While each study has flaws, there is still a truer approach...

But it's true that the way the body responds to different foods varies with each person. Have you heard about the new research being done in Israel which links the insulin response that each person has with their own individual microbiome (it's different in each person). It's fascinating!

....and how to tell what that is will depend on each persons own preconceived notions.

How about most pounds lost, but you get a multiplier depending on how much you started with?
