Being overweight isn't the whole problem. Plenty of skinny folks walking around as unhealthy as ever.

Yes that could be. The main thing to realize is that appearances aren't indicative of health. Rather it's the blood that lets us know what's going on inside.

If you're referring to my post about IR there can actually be people who are skinny and have IR.

And we never really know what came first the chicken or the egg. Do people's unhealthy habits lead them to diseases or are there genetic dispositions and hormonal disruption that lead to unhealthy habits.

You mean exacerbates IR?

The other reason you might have heard of IR is if you're a body builder. They're the ones who know how to tweak and move between being resistant to insulin and sensitive to it to be able to gain muscle weight.

How is IR cured? You need to find ways to sensitize your cells to insulin. Avoiding carbs and exercise accomplishes this.

Btw I was joking... hence the wink

This is my personal success story:

This past November was one year since I adopted the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) on a quest to heal my eczema, improve my health, and lose weight (which I've struggled with since childhood).

AIP is based on the Paleo diet and is a framework of dietary and lifestyle guidelines aimed at healing the gut and the immune system and resolving inflammation (more info in links below).

[Just from the get go, I'd like to make it clear that, contrary to public opinion and the way it's painted by a lot of the media, Paleo isn't a weight-loss or fad diet, nor some ancestral-based theory.  It's firmly grounded in current scientific health and nutrition research. It's biology, not history. Get over the name.]

Over the last year+ some of the benefits I've experienced are: Lots of healthy weight loss (85 lb in less then a year!); better digestive health; significant healing of my skin; increased energy and stamina; mental health and clarity. I've transformed myself and learned so much about health and my body.

One of the main things I discovered was that weight loss came automatically with:

⁃   Eating real food and nutrient dense food
⁃   Avoiding junk (like grains, legumes, dairy, refined/processed sugars and fats)
⁃   Making some healthier lifestyle adjustments (like better sleep, more activity)

Healthy weight loss does not come from restricting calories or fat. I eat lots of healthy fatty foods (like olive oil, avocado, animal fats) and I'm still continuously losing weight. The key is to eat the right food - food that supports and facilitates overall health.

If you're looking to lose weight, I recommend giving AIP a try. Being overweight is often a symptom of body-wide inflammation, which is exactly what AIP addresses. If AIP is too intense, try doing plain Paleo.

If you're interested in finding out more about Paleo and AIP, below are some articles I'd recommend. Feel free to PM me with questions.

I think they say every 4 grams of sugar is about a teaspoon. Do the math before you put something in your mouth.   Start to have a good idea of how much sugar is in what you're eating.

Nice!

Just a side note.. I don't know that I'd label grain, dairy and legumes junk. They all offer various nutrients etc. And while limiting your intake or eliminating them altogether may be beneficial for various reasons I wouldn't put them in same category as sugar. Just my opinion.
