Yes, but when data on deaths lags by 2-4 weeks, you still get useful data during each wave, which can help guide responses. The way they are doing it now, the data is too convoluted to make any real use of until it's over and we're looking to see what went wrong.

Based on how the info is being put out, someone with no knowledge of how deaths are currently being reported could give a cursory look at the numbers and assume that deaths are in decline. The numbers are what they are. Interpretation is on the media and the public.

When they made the change less deaths will be reported currently. That will make the current number less than it would have under the old reporting. So change decline to less if that makes you happy. Once the new reporting catches up everything will be normal. At that point no one will care.

The media would spin that as if the deaths had all occurred that day, when in reality, most of those people had died 2-4 weeks earlier. Now, instead of saying how many deaths were added to the total that day, they are adding each death to the total for the day it occurred. Nothing actually changed. If you want the old number, take today's total deaths (from the start of the pandemic) and subtract yesterday's number from that, and you can still see how many deaths were reported today.

Old system: FLDOH announces how many Covid deaths were reported yesterday from around the state. Media announces, "FL had X new Covid deaths yesterday, setting X record."

New system: FLDOH adds each Covid death to the tally for specific date on which the death occurred. The number matches what would have been announced previously. Any deaths which occurred the previous day are reported as such. Media announces, "FL only announced X deaths from yesterday, using sleight of hand to hide the real number of new deaths."

99% are going to just read how the media presents it. And no it is not correct for a death that occurred 2 weeks ago to be reported as a "today" death.

Those 99 aren't getting their numbers from FLDOH, anyway. They're getting it from the media, who choose to report the stats however they want. They just won't be able to misuse FLDOH quotes as clickbait. "901 New Covid Deaths Announced Today, Setting Record For Biggest Daily Increase."

Are other states reporting like this as well? The media has been terrible with this throughout, reporting on backlogged data getting added as daily spikes.
