When they have less than 95% occupancy they get probably get reimbursed $10-$15...might not even cover the variable costs.
When they have 95%+ occupancy they get probably get reimbursed $400.

Dont know about SPG but a Hyatt manager told me he always gets variables, even showed me the invoice he sends to Hyatt.

Considering the hotel is not close to being booked up anyways, that means they don't lose anything. I guess overall density and wear/tear costs are enough of an incentive to block.

The rooms are not the nicest but for a going rate of $450 a night, you can redeem 3000 points instead, that's 15cpp which is an amazing value.

Besides, in general, Israel doesn't have such nice hotels, but if you want to get out of Jerusalem a little and spend time by the dead sea, this is best place to stay (for your money).

ETA: I just checked and it was $480 a night so that would be 16cpp.

thanks for your response, makes sense just thought if I go with my wife if i should rather spend $300 at Royal Rimonim Dead Sea Hotel? But for 3000 pts I am leaning more to trying it.

The Meridien is the nicest hotel at the (Israeli) dead sea.

Points can only be used when the standard room is available, the RACK rate of which it around 250 (maybe 228?)

Search again. It's generally $480; if you change the number of guests to 2, it goes up to $500.

I've never stayed in the royal rimonim but have checked it out extensively and its probably more or less  as nice as le meridien probably less nice. So in short it would be crazy to spend $300 for royal rimonim when its possible to stay at lmds for a fraction of that price.

Does an Israeli pay anything to the hotel on a points reservation?
