Or you can see if Dvir Bar Gal is giving a tour that day. That is the way to see the Jewish story and he can drop you off at a market afterwards.

Nothing in particular it's just right by one of the big fake markets.
Alternatively you can go to the one near chabad when/if you go for lunch

I arrived in Shanghai in the morning and didnt get to my hotel until 10am - and then had to take an hour taxi to join his tour in progress. It was still well worth it and I was in contact with him by telephone to see where he was up to when I was able to join.

what does he add that i wont find myself in the jewish museam?

The museum is a small building by Museum standards with a few exhibits. It is probably less than 20% of the tour. I'm sure you could pick up all the information by researching and not need a tour but I didn't regret doing the tour and never even thought that I would have done better not doing it. But each to his/her own. I generally find that an experience is hugely enriched when a knowledgeable guide shows the way.

AFAFM: Does anyone know what the current rules regarding entry for US citizens are? Also, what is the best way to book from NYC to PVG? Either miles or cash, it seems there are no non stop flights now? Shortest duration is preferred, economy is fine.

Been twice recently for Shabbat at The Shanghai Jewish Center (ie, main chabad location)
VERY good food, atmosphere, etc. Lots of hotels nearby, just off the #10 metro line
Open for breakfast lunch and dinner, extensive menu
(I was also just in Guangzhou and Beijing during the week, Shanghai is the best, I can't compare regarding shabbat)
