N00b question here.

Trying to help a friend with a UA refund. His wife got sick and they don't want to give an ETC for any taxes just base fare. Is this normal? Any workaround?

TIA
Still looking for a good MS method :)

For non basic economy you should be able to cancel the full amount for a future flight credit or ftc. FTCs can only be used by the original traveler(s). One it’s an FTC you can request to convert it to an ETC which can be used by anyone. You should not be loosing any value when canceling a non basic ticket, there are no change or cancel fees by United (at least if booked with them directly). Hope this clarifies..

I've got 40 Plus Points I've been trying to give away also.  I wonder if today and tomorrow are the hardest days of the year to use them given the expiry?

I'm not a GS, and not even a 1k anymore.  Still, if someone's flying today/tomorrow (on/before January 31) and wants to try, let me know.  (Giving away for free, not selling.)

Any way to get expiring Plus Points extended? Would chatting for a one time exception work?

For anyone that does travel to Israel they are pretty flexible about extending status and pluspoints

I called in December and they were very generous and extended my status for 2024.  They said they could not extend the pluspoints though.  Think it's worth calling and trying again?

Ok here’s the deal. Called 888-825-7684 the number from the email. Guy was not the brightest, but looking to help. He was clueless about tlv route or info etc and went on hold a few times to reach out to a back office to give exceptions to rebook way later down the line. Did a cash ticket and an award. I suspect as I think I mentioned earlier that my status was ruining it for me as I’d get transferred to Premier when calling this number. Today is Feb 1st and no more premier! Epic!

You can always get through to non premier agents by answering "no" when the system asks if it's you calling from your phone number.

Can someone please give me a crash course?

I booked United flights for myself and family.
It looks like only I earn miles for my ticket.

Can I get miles for wife and kids?

Is the only way to open up a separate account for all 6 of them?

And then I would always have to book separate tickets?
Or I can book all on one account and then use their miles to upgrade etc?

Any help would be appreciated

Milageplus ? They each need their own account
If you want to be able to use their miles look into Aeroplan, miles and smiles, krisflyer, etc
Miles and more used to offer too but I think now it is only allowed with a European address

you need separate miles account for each but you can still have everyone under one ticket
