It seems Rabbi Aaron D. Mehlman gives a hechsher for places open on Shabbos (Sabbas I assume is closed), so depending on your standard lots of people wouldn't recommend it as a hashgacha. AYLOR
so does cRc (Dunkin)

Among many others. Plenty of reliably certified Ritas and the like are open on Shabbos.

Without a partner owning it on Shabbos?

Not sure how they did it in PIT, but Ritas there had a frum owner for a while and there was some Shabbos arrangement.

A frum owner will likely be ready to do things as Halacha demands

I've gotten a straight 'no' on basically all of the 'lesser' Manhattan hechsherim (including Marmorstein) and a 'depends on what' for Mehlman. Pretty sure was okay for Saba's, though I didn't end up going.

It's definitely a depends who you ask situation. And if you ask someone based in Manhattan it will be different than in Brooklyn or Queens...

I'm referring colloquially to the hechsher (don't know if they have actual 'brand' names for their hechsherim), not as a way to diminish the individuals' kavod. People say Landau in EY - no one thinks they're saying he was not a Rov.

I disagree that it has to do with location - we're not talking someone in Cleveland opining on NYC, we're talking about someone who doesn't live in Manhattan but is there most days of the week. But yes, there will be many opinions about any given hechsher. For that matter, you'll find people relying on IKC (see upthread) or Cup-K in whatever scenario too. The point is to not rely on that fact there are people out there that eat from a particular hechsher in xyz scenarios, but rather based on what your Rov/kashrus expert (hopefully someone well versed in both the halachic and practical knowledge elements) tells you. [This is not specifically directed at you, just at attitude I see all the time from people who really should know better.]

@Dan - Can we get back to the disagreements about the best table-side Caesar salad or steak in Manhattan....

Discovered the literal OG Manhattan kosher high end steakhouse lol

Happy you did too, just funny to hear someone say discover and Le Marais together.
Surprising to me as well as a foodie who’s been to most of the tri state kosher restaurants…. Remember older folks talking about it now that I’m thinking.
