FWIW, I spoke to someone in kashrus who looked into it and said that Malka and Sabas West Side are 100% mehadrin min hamehadrin but that all NKS places should be looked into individually.

Obviously, everyone should ask their own authority.

And how would you know when that situation isn't true anymore, if every NKS place needs to be looked at individually, you would need to re-check even these places everytime you want to go.

I love Le Marais. Best bang for your buck in NYC. Was a play on words about the ambiance/lighting. Not a shot at the store.

Idk anything about Sabas but malka is owned by somebody who until now has only had non kosher restaurants & he has a hechsher that this person you spoke to is agreeing can be problematic so who is he trusting in the restaurant on a daily basis to be able to say such a thing?

Um, the Mashgiach Temidi?

That would be my assumption as well.

Follow up question - NKS standards are mehadrin min hamehadrin & the only issue is some of their mashgichim are not great? Or their standards are not good but their rabbis can be trusted & he’s telling us these restaurants are keeping better standards than NKS is requiring? Or maybe their standards & rabbis are great & it’s all just politics then all their restaurants would be good.

The question wasn’t for you unless you also know what Dan knows but I don’t think the answer would be as simple as I know the Mashgiah, there’s definitely some follow up to that.

Who do you ask your Kashrus questions to and how do you typically research a Hashgacha?

I asked a relative who works in a major kashrus org, they connected me with people they trust and who have looked into the daily operations.
This is not a blanket statement for anyone else and the answer you get may not be the answer I got. Shivim ponim l'torah.
