I went to Alaska from the nicest places enjoy

Thanks, can you share what you did? I'm still trying to figure out the best itinerary.

Ditto on all that. I also have a trip planned for this summer (either Alaska or Hawaii - still deciding).

And remember that the $10k was for a 3 week trip - a 7-10 day trip will (should?) be exponentially cheaper.

Maybe we can have an Anchorage DO  ;)

If its within the 2K range (not including airfare) I'd be game (don't get me wrong I'd be dying to go no matter what range, but that's what I can realistically afford as of now).

I think $2K is reasonable and I think I know one or two people who'd want to come as well.

Can we get a Wiki on who's attending?

For 2k +airfare I'm interested. Whether or not the timing will work remains to be seen...

I'd be in for up to $3K excluding airfare to see Antarctica.
$10K though...whoa!
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Added to wiki. I think people should also say if they're coming with their spouses or not so that we could get a better idea of the amount of people.

+ Spouse. I think my wife would kill me if I went without her to Antarctica.

No specifics yet, just gauging interest to see if we should make real plans :D

Personally summer would be best for me, but it'll be winter down there so I don't know if it's feasible.

Aha, December 25th time should be good for me.

Won't kosher food be a big problem to figure out? I assume people on these trips can't bring much luggage with them, so food they get there?

Here is some starter info:  http://wikitravel.org/en/Antarctica

I think the only real time to go is the Antarctic summer which I believe is winter here.

That's why we should start planning now. Personally I think I the need for kosher food is overrated. You can go ten days easily without meat and if you have a fruits vegetables, bread, and vacuum packed fish you have most of what you need.

I think Shabbos might be somewhat challenging.

You guys were funny. You're actually acting as if this will happen. We can barely coordinate a local DO. Have you seen the shabbos do thread? Or Dan trying to get people to come to cle?
And now you think you'll organize a trip to Antarctica?

The main reason I think so few of us have been to Antarctica is due to this issue (and shabbos). Going as a fully kosher group should I think help mitigate these issues. If we fill up a boat we could probably have a say in the food and scheduling...

I agree in this case it is silly and probably won't work out, but I think that is because there are to many variables and it won't work for everyone....

But I would not compare it to a DO or shabbaton. How much do you really want a DO? On the other hand going to Antarctica is a once in a life time experience and therefore people will actually really want it and willing to change their plans around it...
