For the past month or so I'm having trouble with copy/paste in Microsoft programs (office/windows). I believe it has something to do with Windows updates as I've had it once after an update and at the next update it went away. Of course I didn't learn my lesson and kept auto-update on.

Question now is, how do I uninstall the last 3-4 Windows updates?

If I would preview a text file in the preview pane of the Windows 8 file explorer, I was able to highlight text and Ctrl-C to copy to the clipboard. This stopped working a few weeks ago, possibly due to a Windows update. I googled it at the time but saw now mention of this problem by anyone else. Maybe it's related to your problem.

Possibly. I run Windows 7 though.

I am not part of a network. I'm not sure what you mean exactly by allowing connections to network. All websites were blocked with both chrome and firefox. Restarting PC didn't help. Only disabling that feature within Kaspersky enabled be access internet. Even when we set web anti-virus to low security level, we still had issue.
Update Kaspersky and reboot. If it's still a problem, you can open a support ticket.

I just got a new laptop and was wondering what the best way to transfer data from the old one to the new one? Is there a way to connect the two computers or is my best option copying the data to an external drive and then copying it to the new one? TIA
Win 7 Pro on both (in case that makes a difference)

External drive is probably the easiest (especially if you have one already)

Ethernet cable (fast if both have gigabit), WiFi (not as fast as gigabit Ethernet), Bluetooth (slow). None of these options should require any software beyond what's built into Windows.

There are some USB cables you could buy for this purpose with a male plug at each end and a bulge of electronics in the middle. These require software to be installed.
You may come across a male to male USB cable without a bulge of electronics in the middle. These are not meant to connect two computers to each other. If you do, the computers will damage each other.

I plugged in the 2nd monitor but it's showing that it's not connected to anything. I went to Display Settings but it can't detect another monitor.

What do I do now?

Thanks
just unplugged everything to test the wire and monitor with a different pc, and when I plugged it back in, viola!

Go figure :)

I just plugged a 2nd monitor into a desktop computer. The computer shows both monitors in Display settings, and in fact lets me move the mouse onto it (or so it seems), but the monitor itself says that the computer is not sending it any signals.

It's not the same message the monitor says when it's not plugged in at all.

Any idea what this could mean?

Thanks

What exactly does the monitor say when the video cable is not connected versus what it says when it's connected to your desktop? Based on what you wrote so far, it seems like you put it in extend mode (rather than clone or single monitor). You say it seems you can move the mouse into the second monitor. IIRC, there is a tool from AutoIt called au3info.exe that will tell you the current mouse coordinates. Download it to confirm if you really moved the mouse to the second monitor. Here's one possibility I thought of: you may have the second monitor set to a resolution it does not support. With modern monitors, you should be prevented from doing so because Windows gets information from the monitor about what resolutions are supported, but it's possible to override that (or it's possible you are using an older monitor). Try adjusting the resolution and refresh rate of the second monitor. Start with lower resolutions and if it works, go up from there, or check your monitor's documentation to find out the resolutions and refresh rates that are supported.
