What exactly does the monitor say when the video cable is not connected versus what it says when it's connected to your desktop? Based on what you wrote so far, it seems like you put it in extend mode (rather than clone or single monitor). You say it seems you can move the mouse into the second monitor. IIRC, there is a tool from AutoIt called au3info.exe that will tell you the current mouse coordinates. Download it to confirm if you really moved the mouse to the second monitor. Here's one possibility I thought of: you may have the second monitor set to a resolution it does not support. With modern monitors, you should be prevented from doing so because Windows gets information from the monitor about what resolutions are supported, but it's possible to override that (or it's possible you are using an older monitor). Try adjusting the resolution and refresh rate of the second monitor. Start with lower resolutions and if it works, go up from there, or check your monitor's documentation to find out the resolutions and refresh rates that are supported.
Although that is possible Its not probable. try unplugging and plugging back in both the power and the video cables and restarting the computer, you can also install the drivers from the CD that comes with the monitor
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

When plugged in it says: "There is no signal coming from the computer. Press any key on the keyboard or mouse to wake it up.", and then it goes to sleep.

When not plugged in it just says: "Dell Self Feature Check", and shows a bar of red, green, blue, and white.

I just tried all of the resolution options for the second monitor, but it still doesn't work. I can change it to Duplicate the display instead of Extending it, but that doesn't work either.

How do I change the refresh rate?
try pushing the plus or minus button on the side of the 2nd moniter
Tried that

I tried unplugging and restarting. I don't have the CD  but I downloaded the drivers from Dell and installed them, and nothing changed.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Try switching ports with the old monitor

The old one is DVI, though.

Does the new one have a dvi port?

No - only VGA. I'm using a VGA - HDMI adapter to plug it into the HDMI port on the CPU.

The monitor itself works fine plugged into the VGA port of my laptop. I wonder if the adapter I'm using is a dud.

Computer has HDMI and DVI.  Working monitor has VGA and DVI, nonworking monitor has VGA.

Computer has HDMI and DVI.  Working monitor has VGA and DVI, nonworking monitor has VGA.
HDMI is digital, VGA is analog, there are converters for that although i've never used one I don't think they are the best way to go. DVI is digital but it's backwards compatible with VGA.

Therefore you are probably best off with a DVI-HDMI adapter/cable (which is just an adapter not a converter) and a VGA-DVI adapter/cable

Interesting!

I'll have to give that a try. Shopping time :)

i've found that a dvi-hdmi adapter won't fit next to a vga cable so you need to get a dvi-hdmi cable

So then its most probably Avast and K9 conflict.  uninstall/change avast installed features.  Install NO TOOLS, and ONLY File Shield.  (unlike the image below)

Just FYI, I had this problem again, this time while using avast pro, and this fix seems to have worked again. Thanks. Again.

Maybe someone can help with this weird issue.

I have a google sheet that I'm exporting to PDF. For some reason, some of the cell borders are not coming through.

Google sheet:

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks!

I think again I think if you select all the cells and then do print selection the issue does not happen. I had the same issue and I think this is what I did.

Try using format painter on those columns. I don't think that helped, maybe I made th column next to it have borders and then I selected what I wanted to print. See if that works.

I have a Verizon Mifi hotspot (thank you Yehuda25) and for some reason my computer is refusing to find it as a wireless connection. It doesn't show up on the list of available networks/connections. I tried restarting both the hotspot and my computer several times but nothing. Any advice?
