I stayed at the NH property http://www.frommers.com/destinations/havana/H46419.html before touring the vibrant Jewish community. Make sure you bring goods for tzedakah.

Yeah, but it's a process. Just because the hands have shaken, it doesn't mean that we're anywhere near TRUE diplomatic relations.
It might even take years... But I've been dreaming of seeing the "old world"- i think it would be so cool, especially the cars that everyone keep talking about.

Of course - note that I didn't say that that JFK-HAV flight is actually bookable ;).

But it's a start, and we might actually be able to visit normally in the not too distance future.

And BTW you could totally go to Cuba now - there are multiple flights per day from YYZ. The catch is that you have to go as an aid worker. There are a couple of tour companies who take groups and do humanitarian work half the time and touring the other half.

The people at my work (who have CA passports) go all the time. Apparently it's a great place to hang out on the beach, drink and smoke pot.
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

Just don't do any work there. Hanging out on the beach should be fine.
