I was having a discussion with some friends regarding if the frying was fake (it doesn't matter regarding the point, as you said, but it would be nice for travelers to know). Then a local cook/caterer joined in the conversation, and he seemed sure it was. He had some experience baking certain light buns in a car when he was touring Turkey, apparently.

Haven't looked into it. It's probably doable using a beacon and tasker. Not recommending that route, just ridiculous pricing.

I remember looking at this one when it was on DDMS last summer. Reviews seem okay, minus the fact that it won’t beep if you turn off your car before you take off your seatbelt, as it needs power to beep (maybe some have a battery?) and I think it’s limited to beeping in the car, no bluetooth notification or anything like that.

That's more than $5 worth of hardware, and certainly more with software and other development costs. And this is not a high-volume item to help them amortize the soft costs.
