@AsherO

I would like a list of potential pitfalls. This is not the Shulchan Aruch here, but to raise awareness, so people will know to look into it, or ask their rabbi.

Unlike your tzitzes your Teffilin Ritzuos (straps) are not allowed to touch the floor even for a moment, it is equal to dropping your siddur on the floor.

Use battery operated candles, lol

Apparently some hold you can make a ברכה on them. (though not the ideal way of doing things)

Battery operated candles definitely have their place in hospitals etc. but without a bracha

If you use cinnamon for besomim on pesach it's better to have a specific bottle that is strictly for besomim and not for consumption, to avoid a safek bracha

Or pour a little bit into a cup.

I made a bracha on electric Shabbos candles when I was in the hospital.
I was told I could turn on any light, make a bracha, and a non-Jew could turn it off as needed.
So anyone in that circumstances should ask their Rav.

Someone needs to note the difference between incandescent and led bulbs. May as well be me.

Incandescent are considered to be fire by many poskim (they produce heat as well as light). Flourescent bulbs and leds are not.

There is no compelling reason to require “fire”. All that should be necessary is “light”.

RMF says safek brachos lehakeil, so don't make a brachah.

I would need to look back at my notes on this from a shiur I gave on this to some doctors, but it is definitely not at all simple that it accomplishes hadlokas ner. The notes on this shiur are not with the rest of them where I expected it to be.

Who says it needs a din ner?

It’s for שלום בית, the whole point is the light.

"No compelling reason" is a broad oversimplification of one possible shita.

Regardless, the point is that the different psakim that people are reporting on battery (or plug in) candles may have something to do with what type of lights they are using.

And therefore the chachomim made a gezeira to light candles and make a beracha lihadlik ner. How can you make that bracha if you weren't madlik a ner?

All the bikur cholim rooms have the incandescent ones.

The chachamim didn’t institute the bracha.
Anyway, many times we say lo plug on the bracha when you are being mekayim the takana.
