Hotels, restaurants, weddings, etc. typically waste mounds of food. There presently should be less food waste overall in the world and therefore almost no need to worry about a shortage.

reality is there are growing shortages cropping up. It's not as linear as you understand. Another factoid... Millions of gallons of milk are being dumped on a daily basis because dairys don't have what to do with the milk. Despite that, there are areas that don't have milk on the shelves. It's called supply chain....

FTR, they tell you when prices are higher.
The prices on the app for delivery are always higher than in store. Nothing to do with current situation asfaik.

Empire Kosher in CH was almost fully stocked last night, and had whole chickens on special for $1.99/lb. chicken cut to 4 or 8 for $2.19 or $2.29/lb. Meet freezer was full, maybe they’re expecting more stock from their fresh fish supplier because stock was low. They were low on Givat cream cheese, but the rest of the dairy fridge was full.

Also restocked Liebers tortilla chips after Pesach (an item I noticed wasn’t there last week). I’m personally not alarmed yet.

A lot of the food products we consume are produced in parts of the world where there are few, if any, Jews. Mashgichim travel to many remote locations often spending weeks away from their families in order that we can have items we consider basics (canned tuna for example). With mashgichim unable to travel, the kosher supply can be expected to dry up.

That's my own layman's assessment. I have not confirmed it with any professional kashrus organization.

I don't know if its true or not but I want to get the credit in case it is that's why I posted, just like trump

someone (that I trust) told me that a big salesman told him that distributors still have stock for another month, but after that we gotta pray for the best
reasoning: companies saw disruption in manufacturing/processing food due to covid
once it all gets back to normal (which could be its there already) they will put the kosher runs at the bottom of their list and will focus 1st on the general (population) product line

We'll just have more blue milk and apples while we wait for the supply chain lags to clear.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Now you're stretching it. There's only that much we can tolerate during this dire food shortage crisis.

I don’t get the hate, I’m a Rice Chex guy. Didn’t say it till now because of all the flak I’ll get but I decided to step up and admit it like a man. Bring it!

ETA: By it I mean Rice Chex. I’m accepting donations to go with the milk from @cholent.
