I think it'd only really benefit somone that thinks lubavitchers aren't frum.

My overly simple (and totally uninformed) understanding is that "mainstream" chabad thinks the Rebbe could have been revealed as Mashiach but wasn't (in this gilgul.) and that there is a fringe (eg videos of people wishing l'chaim to an empty chair) who think the Rebbe never really died and will reveal himself as Mashiach. I may be (and probably am) way off the mark on this.

Thinking back if there is one takeaway from that thread, is that the whole Rebbe being moshiach topic is a fraction of a fraction of what makes someone chabad and while people outside chabad make it seem to be 90% of what chabad is about, someone in chabad will say it's <1% of what chabad is about.

I won't necessarily agree or disagree with what you write (as a summary of that thread?), but missing from this is what the Rebbe said and to what extent does one who considers himself a Lubavitcher (or an aspiring Lubavitcher, to be more accurate) בפועל consider the Rebbe's words to be 100% true and part of Torah. They don't. I'm saying they should. If it's a Lubavitcher shoichet, then yes, they should also learn Chabad Seforim to indicate their yiras shamayim. But if they're not and they learn other Sifrei Chassidus then they should qualify, as well.

IME, the vast majority of people who are makpid to only eat Lubavitch shechita are BTs. Probably close to an 80/20 split.

No, plenty of gezh and ffb lubavitchers eat only lubavitch shchita

Not my experience at all. But it would fit with the definition of gezeh as "someone whose best qualities are unter di erd."

There was a חרם on Hisachdus which was instituted in the early 80s which was never officially removed.

So that would be an issue to eat from Hisachdus as an entity, not from a satmar shochet. IOW, You would be allowed to eat from a satmar shechting at Meal Mart/Agri but not at the Chabad retaurant in Palm Springs even they'd serve you Lubavitch shchita .
