In general, Yom Hilula is used for the Rebbeim.

All of the minhagim (and marching orders/inspiration) that we have for gimmel tamuz came from what the Rebbe said and did for yud shvat for the Frierdiker Rebbe.

Ahm. Maybe because it's part of what the Rebbe said and published? I don't pick and choose the Rebbe's words. I accept them, whether I understand them or not. If I don't understand them that is my problem.
