One more question about the dollars:
My father got a dollar 30-40 years ago not sure exactly that was unfortunately lost (stolen), could verify an approximate date though, is there a picture of every occasion when the Rabbi gave out the dollars? If yes is there a way to get them?
I’m in shape, round is a shape…

Anyone know if there is a כלל on why the שלחן ערוך הרב would have something in parentheses? (I’m specifically trying to understand the last הלכה in סימן ק״ט.)

When it's not directly relevant to the part before is how I see them usually. Just something that is related somehow.

No simple answer.
Either it was the alter rebbe's brother (what he heard from the alter rebbe)
Or printing errors
Or the alter rebbe 'wasn't sure' (and planned to get back to it)
The ketzos hashulchan says there are five possibilities.
Either way there is no one answer for all.

What's your question on this piece?
Maybe someone here can try to help you understand better.

Don’t have a question on it. Was just wondering specifically why it’s in parentheses. Was also surprised that the תהלה לדוד doesn’t seem to be aware of it, and was wondering if it had to do with that.

Thanks!
This may explain why the תהלה לדוד would perhaps argue on it, which I don’t think he generally does.

Try looking here. Seems like you'll have to read through chapter 26.

Nice read.

Apparently there was an Agudas Chabad owned building at 169 Henry St in Manhattan that has a Chabad (& Homel) shul

I think Levin is a good story teller (of things he has researched). I find the introduction to each volume of igros a very good read. Puts things in context.

A shortcut might be to just call the library and ask Rabbi Berel Levin.

Does "The Gehza thing" [sic] keep you up at night? Ask away.
Interesting factor: my wife is Gezha, but real Litvak.

Can't splash too much private stuff here, but if that traumatized you, feel free to pm me.

The Alter Rebbe himself was real Litvak.

Apologies if this has been answered before.

Did the Rebbe write the English letters himself? Or did he dictate them to someone in Yiddish, who transcribed to English?

No idea, but he spoke fluent English and Yiddish among many other languages, so I don't see why not?

FWIU, and there are others here who can correct me, the Rebbe gave Rabbi Nissan Mindel the answer, who then transcribed the letter, which was then edited by the Rebbe. IINM, if the Rebbe signed the letter, the letter was edited by the Rebbe before it was sent (sometimes retyped entirely, and sometimes the same letter with the Rebbe's handwritten edits). If it was signed by "mazkirus", it was the secretariat writing the answer they had received verbally from the Rebbe.

The sheer amount of correspondence the Rebbe had boggles the mind.
