I was injured on bleachers in Skver when I was younger. Granted it wasn't life threatening, but they definitely aren't the safest of places and there should be a better solution than temporary bleachers.
What happened there ?

No deaths != no problems.

I heard that Skver spent over a half a million dollars on the bleachers for their new shul and went above and beyond in regards to safety.

Are you talking about in 1982? The bleachers today are no comparison to then.
If it benefits even just one fellow DDFer, its worth posting it.

Yeah it's going back a couple decades. Curious - what have they changed?

My injury stemmed from climbing up the ladders.
Also, that top row was frightening - with no back and about a 2 story drop.

It used to be all wood. All the braces etc. are now metal, and constructed with the advice of engineers.

On the higher bleachers you could only go up from the front.

Interesting. its always with a back railing or at a wall.

Ah very nice.

Yeah it had a back railing, but as a kid I wasn't tall enough for the railing. I Bh never fell off the top, but it was scary - especially with all the pushing...

This whole no more bleachers or no more dancing on bleachers is pointless. They've been used for over half a century without any problems.

Want to have your bleachers inspected professionally before using? Sure. Want to only have it built by professionals going forward? Sure. But to stop using them altogether because of this story, when it is clear that this was a uniquely-shoddy construction? That sounds like something the TSA would do.

Even as someone who posted this in the aftermath to Meiron, I'm inclined to agree with you

Bleachers terrify me. Even at something as (relatively) small as the annual Kinus picture, I am terrified every time I see it. Who takes achrayus on them being able to hold hundreds, or thousands of people?

It could be perhaps understood as a coping mechanism

What started as an insinuation of an injury due to serious safety violations turned into bleachers without a back railing turned into a kid climbing where he had no business being and getting hurt.
Maybe it was your fault (or your parents) and not the bleachers? Is the car manufacturer liable for an accident caused by drunk driving?

I was far from the only 10-11 year old up there. All the times I was there (probably 10-20) there were kids all over the bleachers, so seemed like SOP to have them there.

Anyways, I was only pushing back on the broad proclamation of "never any problems", and that there's definite room for improvement (which now seems like there's been over the ensuing years).

No but if the tires are held on by wire ties then that is a different story.

If done correctly, the same principles of engineering that keep a building from collapsing. Just because it looks scary doesnt make it precarious is any way, provided it's done correctly.
The chiddush of DDF is the way Dan Deals with all us crazies 🤪

Please don't take my words out of context. I wasn't addressing what happened this week I was addressing an accusation of safety violations that allegedly took place decades ago.

Ugh I see what I did. I shouldn't have mentioned where this happened to me...I wasn't trying to accuse anyone of safety protocol violations - I have no idea what safety protocols are, nor what should they be. All I was trying to say was:

Anyways, I was only pushing back on the broad proclamation of "never any problems", and that there's definite room for improvement (which now seems like there's been over the ensuing years).

You don't need to be a structural engineer to know not to use wire ties. Just as you don't need to be a doctor to know not to drink bleach.  ;)
