Of course. The issue is forcing people to move. Her claim was that they were threatening to delay or divert the flight based on the guy *refusing* to sit next to her and forcing her to move. We know Chareidim have done that in the past. But this story never passed the sniff test from the beginning. We all intuitively knew, without even hearing his story, that she was likely making it up. Now that we know she is making it up, we can also point out that her refusal to move for a Chossid would have been equally racist and problematic.

I don’t believe they have any duty to accommodate such a request.
You can ask politely for people to switch to help you, but if it’s absolutely מעכב that it work out you should fly business.

If the issue is sitting in between 2 people, then pay for the aisle or window.

I hate to say it, but if you have a bona fide religious conviction against the possibility of sitting next to someone, why is it different then when we pay double for kosher food or kosher wine or tuition?

Buy an extra seat and you'll avoid all drama. Plus you'll be a lot more comfortable.

I understand not everyone can afford that, but travel is a luxury in the first place.

You can, but this story is telling as you might wind up being the center of an international debacle.
With the Haredi/Chiloni split as bad as it is now, I expect to see more of these come up when people ask to switch. It just happens to be that this one was made up.

Charedi is just as vague as ultra-orthodox, no? How do you define that word differently?
