I heard last week that Kibbutz Yad Mordechai was celebrating 80 years since its founding.
It's def a bittersweet occasion since the kibbutz is currently under evacuation, and the residents are spread all over.

It reminded me that @moe8555 lives there, and was there on Shmini Atzeres. With all the more prominent (unfortunately) attacks on other yishuvim, I was not aware until now what had happened there, how the cheder konanut defended the yishuv...
We daven that he and all those displaced should be able to return home soon!

You linked the very reason for it. Now is not the time to discuss a two state solution? Okay, granted. But don't expect that teasing the US by announcing thousands of new settlement units will be met with smiles and cheers. And it's a stupid move too which will only turn away the US even more at a time when Israel so desperately needs their aid.

Notice how that term crept into the mainstream when it is just designed to delegitimatize Israeli sovereignty over the land.  For the record all the announced housing are in existing cities in the pre 1967 "borders" (1949 Armistice Lines).

I think that for many people the term "settlements" seems to be a translation of yishuvim or moshavim

A man is in critical condition after setting himself on fire outside of the Israeli embassy in Washington, D.C.

The US Air Force late in the day Sunday confirmed that one of its own active duty members was the man who set himself on fire in front of the Israeli embassy in Washington DC in order to protest the Gaza war.
The man has not been officially identified, but he was heard saying that his name is "Aaron Bushnell". He had also been recorded as saying that what he's about to do was minimal compared with the suffering and plight of the Palestinians, according to CNN.
According to more from The Daily Mail, he appears to have been involved in radical far Left groups:

The active-duty airman is a DevOps engineer based in San Antonio, Texas, according to his LinkedIn profile. He touted himself having 'very good communication skills' and 'thriving in team environments'.

Bushnell is pursuing his bachelor's degree in computer software engineering and is CompTIA Security+ certified, a credential that indicates he has the baseline skills to perform core security functions and pursue an IT security career.

He has apparent links to at least two anarchist groups, Burning River Anarchist Collective and Mutual Aid Street Solidarity - both of which are based in Ohio. Bushnell followed the groups on Facebook.
