Seems like people got upset about him making a public announcement about it (presumably to make a political statement) not the fact that he went. Obviously the headlines (other than this one) make it seem otherwise.
Moral of the story; as biased as the media is, the headlines are even worse. Another example of this was the recent stories about the "Ex-Hasidic woman who lost her kids because she was gay."
