Topic Wiki

Since Vanilla Reloads are no longer able to be purchased with a CC at CVS or any other location, this thread is for historical purposes only.

If I would write where VR is available, by tomorrow it will never be available again. So instead, we will nominate this thread as the place where everyone can complain that there's no VR, and everyone will be happy.

And it was good.

Regarding OneVanilla (OV) and other Vanilla branded GCs:

1. These are not Vanilla Reloads. You are in the wrong thread to learn about them.

2. As long as you are here, they no longer work at WM to load to BB at the cashier or ATM, nor will they work there for MOs. Your best bets are to use Evolve (there is a thread for that), Amazon Payments (there is a thread for that, too), or use them for regular spending in stores or online. At some grocery stores customer service desks, you can use OV to buy a MO.

One CVS i go to has a manager that doesn't allow prepaid cards (i.e. mastercard/visa/amex), but other cashiers and self checkout allowit.  That being said the self checkout says you cant use cvs money card/gift cards for the VR cards.

i buy the GC @a discounted price with a CC, then take the GC go to CVS and buy VR, very simple.

in DD post http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/25499

"In case you’re living under a rock, people have been stalking Office Depots for the past few weeks waiting for their latest supply of Vanilla Reload cards. The card costs $3.95 and can be cashed out at full value via Bluebird. Plus you earn 5 points per dollar with any Ink card. So for a $3.95 fee you earn 2,500 points, or 0.158 cents per point, or $127 at those rates to fly round-trip to Israel with United.
The current rumor is that Vanilla Reload cards have been pulled from Office Depot, but you can still get $500 gift cards at Office Depot for a $4.95 fee and then use that to buy a Vanilla Reload at one of dozens of stores that still carry them. That brings the fees up to $8.90 for 2,500 miles or 0.356 cents per points, or $284.80 for that round-trip to Israel with United.  Or just use the gift card for your everyday spending and earn 5 points per dollar everywhere."
i understand from this that you can buy a GC and then get a VR card with the GC, i just want to make sure i understand this correct, before i stock up on GC
thank you all

From what I've been reading it's very much YMMV even within the same CVS. My personal experience in my CVS is that the manager won't take prepaid visa, et all, and only allows 2 VR cards per day, but most other cashiers allow it.
The self checkouts say CVS gift cards/money cards can't be used. Not sure if that's what you plan to use...
Where do yo get discounted GC's?

i guess you can get them at plasticjungle and cardpool, i personally have a citi world master that i spend a lot of money, and the only rewards i can get (that makes any sense) is gift cards to various stores with a 10%discount so for a 100$ GC i pay 90.50

My favorite CVS just put up a huge sign that any VR purchase over $50 needs to be paid for with cash or debit. I tried doing it anyway at self checkout, and the girl there shot me down. I asked for the manager by name, and when he came out he burst out laughing and said "I was thinking of you when we put the sign up." He allowed me to do it this time, but said its the last time he'll allow it. Oh well, another one bites the dust. Time to find a new favorite CVS.

i bought vanilla reload cards but when i went online to register the cards and load my BB it asks for a 15-19 digit card number. where is that? i dont see any numbers on the front of the card and just a very long number on the back under the scratch off area.

the card number is the number of the card that you want to put the $ onto i.e. bluebird

I don't get it - why not just by the gift cards and cash out with amex payments? why the need for the whole VR thingy? (excuse my ignorance)

Well for one thing Amazon Payments has  a $1,000 max a month and Bluebird $5,000.
