Find out what the fee is if you return your RT in another location, it might be worth it.

Being the cheap guy I am. I split my rental into two. One RT (as I was still within a hour of BZN a week later) and the other a one way, because it was fortune to do a 10 day one way rental.

Planning a trip to Yellowstone NP, with 2 days in Yellowstone and 1 day in Grand Teton.

I see there are dozens of geysers and geothermal features along the trails that starts from Old Faithful.

If I explore that area and trail for a couple of hours (all the way to the end at morning glory spring), is it still worth stopping at various other basins/geysers related sights such as artist's paint pots? Grand Prismatic, West thumb Basin (or is it basically more of the same)?

If so, which ones are distinctly different, and worth the extra stop?

Also does it make more sense to go around the park from geyser to geyser based on the prediction times, or to just plan a route through the park and hope to catch some nice activity along the way?

P.s. I understand that aside from the geothermal wonders, there is wildlife watching and scenery/hikes to see that are worth spending time at.

Make sure to see at least one geyser eruption (easiest to plan is old faithful). Don't miss grand Prismatic. (There is a hill you can hike up to see it from above that is supposed to be a better vantage point than from right next to it, but it's near the fairy falls trailhead)
I did artists painters and wasn't super impressed with it more than any others. I would suggest going to some of the mudpots and volcanoes (although most are in another area of the park)

trip planned for aug 2022.
landing in BZN 10:30 AM Sun,
leaving from FCA 11 PM thurs.

rough plan
sun- drive to yellowstone, grand canyon
sleeping in marriot west yellowstone

mon - day in yellowstone, old faithful, grand prismatic, what else?
sleep in helena

tues- make way up to babb, (east glacier) what to do on the way? anyone been to sluice boxes state park?  lewis and clark center in great falls?

wed- grinnel glacier hike (sleep again in babb)
thurs- going to the sun road, logan pass- what smaller hikes are the best?

would love to hear input- specifically tips for the national parks- yosemite- what are the basins that can be missed??

If possible I'd suggest trying to stay in the park at Yellowstone to maximize your time there and avoid having to drive in and out of the park.

I did the drive from there to Babb last summer. I stopped to see the state capitol in Helena and then took a boat cruise at Gates of the Mountains. I enjoyed it, but it's not a must.

When driving GTTSR, Hidden Lake is the #1 must-do hike (3 miles round trip - only to the overlook and back, not down to the lake). It leaves from Logan Pass, which is the hardest place to find parking in the park. Once you're hopefully parked there, I'd also suggest doing a small section of the Highline trail. The full trail takes hours and is absolutely amazing, but just walking out for 10-20 minutes and then back gives you the flavor of it, and it's amazing.

If you have time for another hike, Avalanche Lake is also very popular and 4 mile round trip. If that's too much for you, St. Mary and Virginia Falls is less than half the length and also nice.

gates of the mountain cruise- actually looked at it last night on youtube, but think 2 hours of that much talking will be too much for our group.
Is it possible to just go by yourself to the river there and see the beautiful cliffs?
my plan to park at logan pass is to get there and park before sunrise, then daven netz somewhere on the side of the parking lot, then set off on the hike.

You'll see some of the river and cliffs at Gates of the Mountain, but most of the beauty is only accessible via the boat ride. Another activity I considered was Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park. I ultimately went with the boat ride since I thought it was more unique to the area and caves can be seen elsewhere, but perhaps it could be an option for you.

I also got to Logan Pass for vasikin and found a quiet side corner where I could daven without being disturbed, only to discover in the middle of Shemoneh Esrei that several mountain goats had wandered over to within a few feet of me, and what felt like the entire parking lot came running over to watch them and take pictures! The parking lot does feel up crazy early, so you are wise to do the same, and hopefully the goats will leave you alone until you're done davening. This will give you plenty of time for Hidden Pass and a taste of the Highline trail.

Im thinking of traveling to Jackson hole for 10 days in August. I found a few nice condos/houses near the chabad house in JAC.

is 10 days too long? how is the chabad there in August? Minyanim? Food?

any input would be appreciated.

I'm an avid hiker and I would be bored after 5 days in the area. It's perfect for a S-Th visit, and feel free to tack on Shabbos if you have a nice place to stay, but that would be the max.

And even though you'll want 2 days for Yellowstone, it will be a pain to drive back and forth to you place in JAC rather than stay overnight in YNP. Another day or 2 for GTNP, plus a day for horseback riding or whitewater rafting and there's not much else to do. You're also in the middle of nowhere, so no other easy day trips available.

Rabbi Mendelson at Chabad is wonderful. I had a beautiful Shabbos Nachamu there last summer, followed by an epic 20 mile hike in GTNP (Paintbrush Divide loop). As for minyan and food, reach out to him directly to see what will be available this summer.

Teton, yellowstone, glacier can be 10 days. 1,3,2 at mininum each plus a travel day each way for glacier. With shabbos mixed in that wouldnt feel rushed or dragged out.

we spent 5 days in yellowstone and still had plenty more to do- but we stayed in the park
