Maybe I'm naive cuz I'm a salaried worker, but if I purchase s/t, I ensure I have the money (or proper debt vehicle) ready at the moment of purchase. I don't assume s/t will come through 48 hrs later that will allow me to pay for the merchandise.

Dont think you are naive, I would say the same, if you purchase something then you should have the money then. And not play the hoping games for the money to come soon.
You may not hold me responsible for any actions taken that were recommended from my account or username.

Just like you relied on your upcoming salary, a vendor might rely on routine customers in the course of business. Doesn't always happen.

I didn't say I'd rely on my upcoming salary.
I'd rely on what I have in my purse today since the seller is expecting the money 'today'.
I may rely on my upcoming salary due in 3 weeks, if my chov is payable in 3.1 weeks.

getting lost going through all the posts.

instead of putting in the check with the risk of it bouncing, simply go to the "buyer"'s bank (which the check is drawn up on) and "cash it". They will tell you instantly if there is or isn't funds there.
thats illegal

Why is it illegal to cash a check from the account holders bank?
Or did I misunderstand something?

It seems some of you surprisingly have zero understanding of how a business works, never mind the basics of cash flow.

I'm still waiting to receive an answer to my basic question.
If I enter into an agreement to buy s/t, and pay it back IMM, how can I use cash flow issues as an excuse? We're not talking about an agreement to pay it back x weeks later, in the meantime my fortunes may take a turn for the worse.

True, I'm not excusing him rather I'm explaining his possible reasoning. It's common practice that small businesses write checks while taking into account that it won't be deposited until another few days and by then he will have a way to cover it.

Some banks when u make  a deposit at a teller , they will show the  balance in checking account , may need to ask for it -- deposit $5 in his checking account and you may find out balance in his a account

They are allowed and do tell you if there is enough money in the account to clear the check

I agree. They should say before they take the miles what the intention is with paying

It would be a service to many if you would list his name here for all to avoid in the future.  I don't think the Points Police are gonna use DDF as a means to capture him.

You can call any bank and tell them you have a check from their bank and you would like to know if there are enough funds in the account to cover the check.
They will give you a yes or no answer.
I've done it more than once.
