Besides for excess wear and tear policies (damage waiver) has anybody gotten a tire policy as well?
Yea, I have a Tire and Wheel waiver.

Didn't need to come on to it yet.
I know a few people that it was a lifesaver for after the winter snow , and all the potholes.

True. There is also mazal involved...
People don't realize that when you spend allot to lease you are not giving yourself the chance to have good mazzal.
Which plenty of people have with 5-10 yr old cars.
And you are talking about thousands of dollars over a few years...

Just voted in the poll, a bit surprising that all 4 main options are within 1-2 votes.

Will be needing to get my first car in a few months pg. Reading up here. To clarify: those, like Dan, who are vehemently against leasing, are advising to buy a new car and pay it up over a few years. Correct?

Better value is buying a 1 year old car and financing it at 1.75%. When buying a brand new car you pay a premium to be the first person to drive it out of the lot. Let someone else pay that premium and shave a bunch of $$ off the price.

I got a 6 month old car for 6K off the going price for new. It was a unique situation and not really replicate-able but you should be able to shave a few thousand off for being willing to not get a brand spanking new car.

I used to think like this, until I realized (or was made aware by Dan) how to negotiate a new car purchase.
With a new car, there are tens (hundreds!) of places to buy the exact same item. You can pit them against each other and get the lowest price available. Buying a used car, each item is unique, making it much more difficult to negotiate.
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

But can you get the price close to what you would pay for a 1 or 2 year old car ?
I just financed a 13 camry with 12k miles for 14,000. In my mind 12k miles is the same as new and the year is mostly irrelevant. The only down side is the full warranty expires in 6 months. But  I shaved off at least 6k from a new car.

Are you saying that based on experience? The basic 'stats' of a car are still the same. Negotiating for a used car is the same as for new. Biggest difference is that you'll feel like you did more negotiating for a new car because the starting point is that much higher than the realistic price you're gonna pay when compared with used cars.

Why would someone but a new car and sell it after a year?

Moving across the country (and doesn't realize how cheap shipping is),  getting a company car, getting a newer car, realizing the payments are too expensive etc

It's 1000 and first month.  And buying you pay tax for the whole car upfront.
