It's pas akum, but the Chief Rabbi of France holds that plain French bread is kosher from any bakery.

What's considered plain French bread?

Has anyone here been in Nice and taken a day or two trip to Provence?

Looking for any info!

How many days does one need in Nice?

I want to check out some cities around Nice as well. Any tips?

Monaco is cool and the drive is really nice along the coast. The train is easy as well if you dont want to drive.

I'd PREFER to rent a car as long as it's not too much of a hassle with parking etc.  Did you visit any other cities close to Nice?

How much time would you recommend there?

Parking is a huge hassle, I personally used public transport for everything, and it was great!

I was there for the long weekend in Summer 2011 . It was beautiful but you don't need more than a few days there. I did this full day tour and would recommend it:

http://www.nexus-communication.com/startour//us/tours/tour1.php

We only only had one full day to tour so this was the best option. If we had a few days during the week I would have probably rented a car and explored all these places our own.

There are a few decent kosher restaurants there too.

Sounds like a cool way to spend a few days. What was your flight routing like?

I flew into Zurich, spent 24 hours there with a day trip to Lucerne, continued flight to Nice for long weekend, then took a local flight to Paris for 3 nights, than back to NY.

Nice, now I am tempted to include a under 24 hours stopover in Zurich.

I would recommend it if you have the time. Stay at the PH for the night.

It would make sense to get there earlier in the morning so you have a full day. If I remember correctly, Lucerne was about 1 1/2 hours from the airport but it might be quicker. There is lots of information in the Zurich Thread. Also read Dans trip note as he also did a 24 stopover in Zurich.

If you do NCE and go to Provence, you may want to drive through Gorges du Verdon. I've never been there myself, but it appears to be nice. See some guy's pics here: https://picasaweb.google.com/jirkasunseeker/CanyonDuVerdonApril2010

There appears to be opportunity for some good Jewish history touring in the Provence area (Arba Kehilot, etc).
Anyone happen to know of a local that does tours?

Yes, I did see that though I read the drive there is a bit tense.  It looks beautiful though. :)

Has anyone here ever driven from Barcelona to Nice along the French coast? Looking into doing the drive this summer, however I cannot find a car rental without a drop off fee of close to 800 dollars. Best I found was 300 hundred from Perpignan which is about 2 hours from Barcelona to Nice, but the hassle of getting there from BCN makes the whole thing not worth it.

I am going to Europe this August and was planning on going from Venice to Nice. I though I would be able to take an overnight train but that doesn't seem like a viable option. What would be the best way to get from Venice to Nice? Should I attempt to rent a car and drive or just fly? Is there a train from Venice to Nice that is an option that I am not aware of? TIA
