I'm tempted to start a thread "only in Lakewood"
Anyhow I walked into a pizza shop there no customers in sight I go over to the counter and ask "can I please have a pie of pizza"
He says No
So I turn to the door he calls me back and says sure you can have a pie I just wanted to teach you a lesson that everything is from Hashem and sometimes you gotta wait it out for the right time to come and it seems that you came a minute too early

I responded now let me teach you a lesson if you say no to customers they might not return to your pizza shop there are plenty in the neighborhood

So he says we'll, you want me to be boring and say here you have a pie $15 please

Oh well Only In Lakewood

Ugh, the people in life who think they’re smarter than everyone else and need to teach everyone a lesson…

Sorry you had to experience that.

YES PLEASE. I’ll take 2. I’m paying a lot more than that.

After I left I thought to myself could be he has some pressing issues and he's waiting for the right minute to come a shidduch or something, you never know what others go through in life

But at least now he qualifies for the Ben Torah discounts

Customer service is hard. Having the same conversation again and again probably got really tedious and he wanted to change it up.

There are plenty of proprietors who do similar. I've had many of these type of interactions with a famous store owner in Monsey. As a customer, if you're expecting it it's fine.

Na these are usually broken people who ended up in these jobs where they receive no kuvod or admiration, at best they are treated just as robots and are yearning to be given a smile and be treated as a respected human being. The way you respond is with a HUGE smile saying, "absolutely! you are so right! everything is from hashem.. we always seem to forget the obvious!..." plus a compliment on what a phenomenal job they do and how efficient they are etc.. Most of the time you'll see them melt away in happiness. Huge and easy mitzva!

Sorry, I’m your customer, not your therapist.

Half the time I’d probably react the way you’re suggesting, but the other half of the time it’s not fair to expect that of me.

What an annoying wordle. I would walk out the door and find a place that doesn't give me attitude. There are plenty of ways to create entertaining customer interactions without pissing them off.

Considering I popped into his shop yesterday as I was walking by to see how he’s doing, I’d say I’m both a customer and a friend. Never heard of a therapist soliciting donations for their client :P

It’s pretty consistent, if my friend was a shopkeeper and gave me the Lakewood Pizzaman’s answer? I’d react like a friend would.

Certainly not. My therapist never cut my hair, it would be highly unprofessional if they did :D

I understand that customer service can sometimes come with some attitude or misunderstanding but outright denying the service you're trying to sell for the sake of teaching a lesson doesn't look like a smart idea

I wasn't pissed off when he said no, I thought he's closed and working for himself after hours

BTW @Euclid which store in Monsey gives attitude I've never been in such a situation in Monsey, not that I went shopping by all stores

I did have those oldeis that were interesting sometimes but never got Musser behind the counter

I also had Rockland kosher denying the purchase of beer for a vach nacht mtzsh for not having an ID but that is policy not attitude, and we dealt with it accordingly

That pizza shop had a KCL certificate with expiration date of 12//21 don't remember the day

I asked him about it he said they expire monthly and he just didn't get a chance to print out the new one

He did show it to me on his phone

Does that make sense? Why would a hechsher expire on a monthly basis?

I didn't mean specifically like this story. Just interactions which didn't always get standard responses. Sometimes even grouchy. :)

I don't know if he still works behind the counter, but he's a famous old Monsey Airmont character.

Cashier: “Sorry, no ID no beer. That’s the policy. Nothing to do about it”
