Can I add an address to my credit report? Or only an FI can?

If it's on  your DL you could "probably"  have it added mailing in a copy.  Same goes with a utility bill.   Neither are guaranteed.

I'd snail mail into whatever their dispute address is.

Is there any way to reference who we are discussing? Because I want to do this for my wife, and she just changed her name

Is lowering your credit limit bad for your score? How bad? Is bad like closing your card?

you always want to keep your debt to credit ratio as low as possible (but higher than 0) so lowering your limit hurts that if you don't lower the debt too.

Also closing cards doesn't hurt your score at all.

Stira
how is that a stira the ratio goes per card not per total credit so if you close a card with zero balance it does not make your ratio higher.

There are 3 ratios.

Utilization on the individual card
Overall utilization
Percentage of accounts with balances

If you close a card with a $25,000 CL and $0 balance, your overall utilization will increase.

Assuming other card have balances.  And overall increase in utilization only matters if it causes you to cross specific thresholds.

then I stand corrected. I understood that the ratio goes by card and not overall bec I once had a card with a 1k limit close with an 800 balance and it dropped my score. Y a lot that month even though overall my available credit was about 60k

Yep,  80% is almost considered maxed out (I believe FICO algorithms count 90% as maxed.)  1 maxed out card will ding your score to varying degrees depending on your overall profile.

But the total number of cards with balances and overall utilization are all taken into account.   Thats why before the Chase 5/24 rules guys would get Lowes and Walmart cards.  You could get $30K limits with all CLI's being soft pulls and skew your overall utilization heavily.

Right, but not many people make sure that all of their CCs close with a $0 balance on the statement date. It's simply not normal CC behavior.

Not everyone has balances on all of their CC's.  Not everyone has high balances on their CC's.

You keep making blanket statements that just aren't correct.

If closing  a CC doesn't change your utilization to a significantly different bracket,  it will have little or no effect on your score.

I could close a $40K CC today and it wouldn't change my score.

Here's a hypothetical situation.

Someone has 200K of credit lines.  10K of balances reporting.  That's 5% utilization.  Close a 40K card and now that person has 6.25% utilization.   That's hardly going to cause a blip in your FICO scores.

Nonsense. "Most people don't obsessively make sure all of their CC statements close with a $0 balance" is a basic fact.

Even people who religiously pay in full every month typically have balances reporting on one or more CCs every month.
