My impression is that you would not say this regarding something done by the Lubavitcher Rebbe.

That’s what happens with you ask about a Bobover minhag in an Ask a Lubavitcher Minhag.

Why does Today's Hayom Yom say the Rabbeim used to give Chanukah Gelt on the 4th or 5th night, what's special about those?

https://www.chabad.org/dailystudy/hayomyom.asp?tdate=12/22/2022

The number of lit candles on the menorah (equal or) outnumber the unlit ones.

Never said we don't. But I never heard of specifically eating dairy in connection to the Alter Rebbe's release on the 3rd/5th night of Chanuka.

Isn't that what latkes are for? To have with sour cream!
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

He was released on the 3rd and 5th day?
ראה ספר השיחות תשנב פ מקץ הערה 59
Came home from first arrest on 2nd day of chanuka
Geula from second arrest on 3rd and 5th day of chanuka.
This used to be a difference of opinion what day it was, and the Rebbe says that there was a literal geula on both days

Why dairy?
We do know that there is minhag brought by the rama to eat milchig on chanuka, right? And many people will serve milchig at a chanuka party, right? So why can't she serve it?
Not specyto do with the alter Rebbe, but happens to be Chanuka

What Reb Sholom Eliezerl's Rebetzin served at her dinner became a minhag in Bobov? Interesting.
Chabad eats kasha on yud tes kislev because "that's what the alter Rebbe ate in prison"
We eat montashan on Purim because that what Daniel or Esther ate
וכהנה רבות
That's how minhagim started

OP implied there was particular reason to eat dairy on 5th night to celebrate the Baal HaTanya's Geulah on that day, to which Dan wondered on celebrating a yoma d'pagra with dairy.

I understand the question. I'm suggesting that might have to do with being chanuka

Where I should start? Let me just say that a Sanzer chassidus don't just incorporate a certain food for all because the Rebbe's mother's mother served blintzes (which she likely considered a choshiva dish) to honor a certain day that was very special in her father's house.

I understand the question. I'm suggesting that might have to do with being chanuka

That would actually take care of my wondering too.
