Topic Wiki

This thread is to discuss whether people feel that something is unethical, not to find out what the law*/T&C says.

Any Halachic questions should be posted here.

*According to CountValentine this includes religion, but unfortunately for him, the general consensus is that religion will always be entwined in this thread.

*Hint* If you have to ask, It's most likely not ethical.

does that change  if the driver allows it or does he not have the authority?

For Amex to close cards and not pay the rewards earned?
Small claims court?
You can say what you think when you think what you say.

Applied for biz ua 30k card. i asked to match to 50k offer. they did and added the 20k but  by the way noted my current offer was 30k plus 5k for au. i hadn't realized that. so if i add an au now i should get another 5k.

lchora had i already gotten 35k they would have only given me another 15. they are trying to match, not outdo. on the other hand they knew at the time they gave me the 20 that i could later apply for an au.

is it ethical for me to apply for au and get 5k? i may use the au card a little, but dont think i would get one if not for the extra 5k.

IIRC the 50k offer also gets additional 5k for au for a total of 55k

that would certainly solve it, but i think thats only on the personal, not the biz.

why do you think so?

If there were requirements attached to the au card, then fine I get it. Do some spending and yada yada. But there requirements are just open one and zeh hu.

As gavhaller says, the requirement is just to open it.
I automatically make myself an AU on all my husband's cards.  Then, when the cards come, I put his in a drawer and use mine exclusively. Doing it in reverse is almost the same.  If you have anyone doing any shopping for you, you can give them the AU card.  Then you've opened it for it's intended purpose.
Also, if you hold it's ok to open an AU card just for SBS, then this certainly is ok.

i have no problem with au normally, this case is different because i will end up with more than i think they wanted to match to.

What they matched was the bonus for the primary card. In addition to that there's an extra bonus for adding an AU.

Is it ethical to request compensation from a hotel even if nothing was really bad. I emailed a high end hotel after my stay and told them I felt like it was a rip off and did not fell good about my stay and requested half of the value of the stay as a compensation. They obliged.

so then I misunderstood you. I thought you complained and told them that even though it was fine.
What would be unethical about it, so long as you didn't lie?
