My reason to think that even though one makes a shehakol they would still have to eat it in a sukka is because its made from the חמ"ד. Similarly to noodles where even though its not פה"ב you still must eat it in the sukka.

It's lacking chashivus bec יש לו עילויא אחרינא, so noodles aren't a raya. Would you think granola (assuming האדמה) needs a sukka?

They got psak from 3 poskim stating that they can travel to anywhere on the bus as long as they get on before shkia.

I need to limit this to case by case basis. There are other reasons in typical cases it lmaala miyud doesn't typically count on a bus too. I would need to look back, but this is not nearly the first case where I saw it used.

Looked into one and verified that it included the stipulation that they are in Lakewood by 40 min after shkiya.
