Over the past few days countless videos of the moments following the Meron tragedy have been shared on social media (including DDF), and I've been thinking about how awful it must be for relatives of the niftarim to see these videos or hear about them. It's bad enough that so many families in klal yisrael just lost a parent, husband or child; they certainly don't need their relative's last breaths being shared endlessly online.
True, most of the videos of the recent tragedy don't focus on an individual person, but do you not think it still hurts? And some do show specific people, like the horrifying video of a dying child helplessly reaching out to a cop before collapsing. I can only imagine that family's horror and trauma when they find out that that video is out there.
Some (including tabloid-style frum news sites) have spread these videos simply as news content to satisfy people's itch to see what happened. I'd like to think that most on DDF are above that, but it seems that we still want to debate whose fault it was and did the police block the path and was there a gate and was the gate was pushed aside before people fell or after. But can we maybe forgo figuring it out in the interest of protecting the privacy of klal yisroel's newest yesomim and almanos? Can we leave the graphic videos for the state commission or a court to decide whose fault it was?
TLDR: STOP POSTING VIDEOS OF YOUR FELLOW JEW DYING!!
