The main reason all yeshivos are fighting this as I understand it, is because once an outside hand detrmines the ciriculum, you never know where it will end. Will they next require sex education? The morals of the country at large have shifted dramaticly recently and not in a good way. If some state regulater decides that we are depriving our children by not teaching... who know what...

Once we go down this slippery slope it may never end.

What about being forced to teach evolution?

That is for private or public schools, correct?

Private. The private schools have to be "substantially equivalent" to public schools, that standard was decided upon today.

This is regardless of funding, by the way. I believe that homeschooling parents are subject to similar rules. In addition to penalties for the parents, school administrators will also be fined.

I am not defending the article. It was a one-sided hit piece.
Now I can list 10 things wrong with the school system I went to. It would be a hit piece, but the info would be correct.
I am asking about some of the claims in the article and everyone is getting defensive or deflecting. That tells me something.

To answer your question, I don't know of anyone here that would have a problem. Is there anyone here that went to the school they claim failed 100%?
I didn’t realize you agreed, it appears some posters didn’t. As I’ve said earlier I agree that there is definitely room for improvement and some real issues were raised. If a peaceful and productive solution could be devised I would be completely on board (not that anybody asked me).

As far as that school, if what they are saying is correct, it’s unlikely any of them are on an English speaking forum.

Is it a slippery slope? Can we look at other states and see what is going on?

I know it is not another state, but I am fairly certain that it is required in some Western European countries.

If a public school goes rogue and was decertified, they wouldn't be subject to the same law?

No, this rule is for private schools. I have no idea what the rules are for PSs and what happens if they aren't meeting required standards

You misrepresented what was happening.
The issue is that the NYT misrepresented what is happening. This is another thing that we agree on, we just argue on who is doing the misrepresenting.

I gotta say, as far apart as we are on certain issues, this is why I like you. You have a sense of humor and you're willing to let other people know when you agree with them even while disagreeing in everything else.

They have different goalposts. No need to worry about what happens when their system fails.

I wish there was a way to block WA VNs.
The most sought after WA feature that is ignored by the developers.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

The wording "substantially equivalent" has been, but it has not really been enforced, he didn't have a clear definition of what that means.

I'm not really sure of the history, but I do know that back in the 50s and early 60s at least they did make sure kids were learning secular subjects: https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=105181.460#msg2594037

If you read that story, I'll follow up with the fact that my grandparents would have gone to jail had the Rebbe told them to keep my father in that school. That's what the activists who are pushing for these laws don't realize, there is no punishment that will stop us from providing the education we deem necessary to our kids. Ironically, we're being accused of *not* educating our children, when in actuality we're willing to pay fines or go to jail, even a Soviet gulag, to ensure our children get educated.

The most sought after WA feature that is ignored by the developers.

They are happy to enable countless users who are too lazy/unable to type. If they don’t allow blocking voicenotes they will lose a few users at most, if they do allow it they might lose many users.

I couldn't believe this needs to be spelled out, but yes, many from that school and other comparable schools fully partake in the discussions here, as well as in other English platforms. Business emails from UTA or CUTA graduates aren't written in yinglish as anyone who's in the frum business world knows, although there are those who don't care to learn, particularly from the older generation.
