I traveled from NY to EY for a wedding, leaving on 3/1/20.
On Friday 2/28, as I was walking out the door, my boss' boss told me that I should contact him when I return to see if it was okay for me to come back to the office. Of course, that was my last time in the office to work (I dropped by a few times to pick up things from my office) until May of 2021!
I still can't believe how I managed to go to the wedding and back and not get COVID. A couple of crazy stories from that week.
1. My Plane to Israel was R' Dov Zinger and R' Shlomo Riskin. I stood within 2 feet of R' Zinger davening ma'ariv on the plane, I also spoke to R' Riskin for a few minutes. 12 days later, when I was already back in the US, I saw in the news that R' Zinger had COVID, and R' Riskin was in Quarantine. I freaked out a little, knowing that I could have easily infected a million people at the wedding.
2. Another wedding guest flew on Tuesday via Spain. At that point, infection rates were super high, and Israel was undecided about what to do with Spain, Italy and other European countries. They canceled his connecting flight, and told him there might be a flight tomorrow. So he got a hotel room in madrid, came back to the airport the next morning. He was told he could go on to Israel, but since he left the airport, he'd have to quarantine for 2 weeks on arrival. Since the wedding was on Thursday, he opted to go back to the states.
3. A lot of my son's classmates went to the shul in New Rochelle that was the first shul in the frum world to have massive spread. They all came back sick on Monday, and they were not yet ready to go remote, so they canceled his classes for the week - so he didn't miss any school. His hebrew language teacher asked if he learned any new useful hebrew words on his trip to Israel, he said he learned two- "Bidud" (Quarantine) and "Bechirot" (Elections)
