I don't think that stating the obvious (namely, that if Hamas had their way, they would slaughter all 8 million Jews in Eretz Yisroel) is diminishing the Holocaust one bit.

I would actually say the opposite. Israel had every intention and protocol in place to prevent the attacks from Gaza. Only G-d showed us that He is in control of what happens and not them.

I really don't know where this attitude of not "kereng velten" came from. Our Rebbes and Rabbeim did the utmost they could to save Jews anywhere. I'm sure you are familiar with the history of the Vaad Hatzalah and similar efforts. No one was busy darshening about why it happened or not. They got to work and left the chesboines for a different time.
