Some bugs can be frozen and hibernate until thawed and then walk away.

I hope he meant frozen fruits don't have a bug issue and not that frozen bugs are ok to consume

I heard the other day two people in shul discussing bugs
And they mentioned Rav belsky
They also said that when bugs are frozen their eyes pop out which takes away the status of a בריה so we can use ביטול to make it מותר

It’s makes you wonder where we’re at when people base facts (which are very much subject to change) off of what Rabbi Belsky said 10 years ago, instead of ascertaining the facts themselves.

They also said that when bugs are frozen their eyes pop out which takes away the status of a בריה so we can use ביטול to make it מותר

That’s a good one!
Would love to know where that came from and who relies on it.

Fwiw, R Weiner puts it on his teir two status on his hechsher list, which means it's reliable,  even if they rely on some kudos. (In comparison,  Chasm Sofer Petach Tikva is tier 4).

Good point. I heard directly from him that strawberries don't need to be soaked and that a strong spray is enough. (He specifically said the soap gives them a bad taste). Maybe things changed since then though

בעיני ראיתי a pint of strawberries yielding multiple insects even after being thoroughly washed. Now we can have all sorts of halachik discussions how many to how much and how often etc. But that can only happen when facts are agreed on.
