Not saying this was the case here, but you have to understand, in these situations it doesn't work like you come over to beis din and say 'hay my husband refuses to give a get ya know' and beis din answers 'no problem poor lady, we'll call Tony and he'll sure he says 'rotzeh ani'.It doesn't work this way, the rabbonim first try to exhaust all other venues, all other tricks before going this route. And that all 1) costs TONS of money, and 2) justifies the beis din taking more than $500 per case.
The real scandal here is the GET process. The halacha is (even ezer 77/1) that a person can only be forced for a get if HE was at fault. However, if the woman was at fault then a forced get is possul!!! So HOW in the WORLD could Rabbi W say that this forced get would be good if he never spoke to the husband BECAUSE HE DIDNT EXIST!!THIS IS THE REAL SCANDAL!!
It is a pretty delicate task to threaten, scare and coerce husband to give get, all without physically hurting him too much. I wouldn't trust a gang of goyim for that.
As if all this wasn't enoughhttp://www.lohud.com/article/20131010/NEWS02/310100091/
Rumor has it that the NYPD now believes that the West Side biker gang from last week was trying to 'persuade' the fellow in the SUV to give a Get
My big concern is whether the Rabbi's paid Maaser on their earnings.

so sad! this whole situation. again, i am disgusted that some jews are happy about this story... i just dont get it. i know countless stories about this situations, i dont want to talk about the specific ways they did what they did, but for a husband to with hold a get from a wife (and i know stories where husbands demanded BIG numbers like 2 mm), does that make sense?
I have no words.
There are poskim who hold that is supercedes the kesubah and therefore invalidates it, which would obviously be problematic. Others just don't like it because it was never done before. Others just don't care about women, say it's degrading to the men to have to sign such a document. In the modern orthodox world it's becoming a lot more common. Many rabbonim won't be mesader kiddushin if it's not being done.
