We have flights scheduled to go out United on Dec. 17 to TLV (return on Dec 30th). So far United has consistently canceled flights as they get closer. We got the tickets through Capital One Venture points. I am weighing canceling the flights now and rebooking on ELAL (not cheap) or waiting for United to cancel and rebook later. Who knows they may still fly. We have an add on with Capital One for canceling for any reason. It only provides 80% Refund ($4,869.99 / 486,999 miles) of your ticket cost back to our points system I suppose or 100% United Credit ($6,087.48 / 608,748 miles) of your ticket cost only to be used within the next year. I am assuming that if United cancels the flight we get 100% back not as United credit, but I can't tell. Can someone help me weigh waiting for United to cancel as opposed to preempting it and taking the 80% and rebooking with ELAL. I can't see us using the united points within a year since we don't fly that much. Thanks in advance.
