I'm looking to book El Al TLV-JFK in August. I was hoping to do this with Alaska miles, but I'd like to be able to make changes if needed. I called Alaska to see if they could add El Al Protect. The CSR I spoke to thought they had already terminated their agreement with El Al, but when she looked further, she saw that it ends in April, and it's totally kaput as of August 1. This means that they won't have any way of dealing with my August tickets if anything goes wrong. She said something similar had happened with another terminated agreement, and it was a nightmare -- neither Alaska nor the other airline could deal with it. Suppose El Al cancels the flight; clearly my Alaska miles won't be refunded. Suppose I need to cancel the flight and I don't have El Al Protect.

Any suggestions? Would third party travel insurance cover this?

There is no protect option on a mileage ticket. It's fully refundable.

Was not successful online or throughout the trip?
The website can add a skymiles number but doesn't seem to recognize any status
Did you try contacting CS?

Online, doesn't recognize status, it was to test it out.

I'm assuming you're replying to my Alaska dilemma. The problem is that after August 1, there won't be any agreement between El Al and Alaska, so how could they return the miles? The CSR used the word "nightmare" to describe a similar situation.

Quite easily.
The nightmare is to make changes.

Anyone know why Elal keeps changing the 1 am flight from Tel aviv to Newark to 6:55 am or around that time? I was just on it and it was quite inconvenient. Many people told me that knew to avoid that flight because Elal keeps doing it. Basically had to stay up all night.

So you're saying that if El Al cancels the flight or if I cancel the booking, El Al will tell Alaska to return the miles even after their partnership is dissolved? But if I want to change the date, neither airline will help?

Probably because of late incoming planes, especially now with back to back schedules. and the Newark flight is the easiest for them to change because it doesn't turn around until 9PM unlike the JFK flights

You can purchase a 3.5mm to Bluetooth transmitter which plugs into the soct and transmits to your Bluetooth device

I am trying to fly from EWR to TLV and land in TLV on El Al. The direct one way ticket for my date is $1800. My other options (all cost $800 or less) are:

1) Book the Delta direct from JFK on El Als website for $800, my question about this is when Delta cancels the flight will El Al rebook me on El Al, and would they allow me to fly from EWR instead?
2) Book 2 separate tickets a British Airways to London and a El Al from London, my question is if I can have the bags tagged all the way through?
3) Book Virgin from JFK to London with points and El Al from London, again can I have my bags tagged all the way through?

I have a friend who booked DL flight with ELAL, they automatically rebooked onto LY. he didn't like the rebooked option so they rebooked onto a different flight he wanted (was same airport but I don't think it should make a difference, and was booked via OTA but should be the same case when booking direct)
On a side note: is it worth spending $1000 more or weird stops to fly out of EWR instead of JFK?
