I'm looking to book El Al TLV-JFK in August. I was hoping to do this with Alaska miles, but I'd like to be able to make changes if needed. I called Alaska to see if they could add El Al Protect. The CSR I spoke to thought they had already terminated their agreement with El Al, but when she looked further, she saw that it ends in April, and it's totally kaput as of August 1. This means that they won't have any way of dealing with my August tickets if anything goes wrong. She said something similar had happened with another terminated agreement, and it was a nightmare -- neither Alaska nor the other airline could deal with it. Suppose El Al cancels the flight; clearly my Alaska miles won't be refunded. Suppose I need to cancel the flight and I don't have El Al Protect.
Any suggestions? Would third party travel insurance cover this?
