Any date points for recent success getting an upgrade with the bidding system? What are the odds?

If it is a true agent it is their issue not the airline
Assuming we are talking before departure and the space is there it is a simple exchange
If it is after departure it does get more complicated
Thank you!

I always book ElAl with a travel agent rather than ElAl customer service - in case there are changes to the itinerary or I need to make some changes. I would like to buy ElAl tickets with Chase points. What is the experience using the Chase UR service reps to handle issues with ElAl tickets?

They are slow as molasses and not great but usually get the job done.  Budget 45-60 minutes for a call that requires any ticket changes.

I use points of all sorts for everything except elal tickets that there's any possibility of needing help with down the road. I use a a TA for that. Not worth the agmas nefesh

Would it work to book a ticket on elal with chase points for the same cost as the ticket that you want to buy through travel agent (obviously at a much later date, when tickets are not as expensive), then cancel it and get a voucher? Travel agents don't get paid for tix paid with vouchers, so you may want to offer the TA some money to do it for you. Then he has control of the booking and can make changes if need be.

IME they issue a voucher that can only be used through Chase travel, not a flexible El Al voucher.  Also keep in mind that El Al did not renew the no-fee cancellation voucher program, right?

It's not a confirmed upgrade.
Depending on the date and fare, before you confirm the system tells you on what date it will review the offer

Not true, there's only one step to voiding a ticket. Once the ticket is voided, the funds are released back immediately and may take up to 10 days to go back to voucher.

The agent that booked the ticket may be able to reuse the original transaction ID (Auth code) to issue another ticket if you couldn't wait, but it has to be done in the same system that was used for the original ticket, which may complicate things like commissions or If you already had the second booking held in a different system, it couldn't be migrated over officially...
Make stuff happen.

Ly 4 Today's flight.
Economy roundtrip was $1900 as I wanted those specific flights.
No status with ElAl regular Matmid account.
Way home I see 7500 +150 but will see if I go for it as it's a day flight so it's easier for me.

Makes sense as it was probably a higher economy class
