Topic Wiki

This thread is to discuss whether people feel that something is unethical, not to find out what the law*/T&C says.

Any Halachic questions should be posted here.

*According to CountValentine this includes religion, but unfortunately for him, the general consensus is that religion will always be entwined in this thread.

*Hint* If you have to ask, It's most likely not ethical.

Is it ethical to try to profit off a singer (buy reselling tickets), in which the singer had a concert where people died, and he just kept the music playing?

bought tickets to TS concert tix to flip. long story short, theyre about worthless.
Time of concert changed by an hour.
Is it unethical to do a chargeback based on seller changing goods they sold me?
Tried asking for refund, was rejected.

If it makes you feel any better he's going to be performing in empty arenas because of this ticket snafu. They opened up more shows because they thought they sold out the shows

Not sure. New arenas were sold the very next day all over the country. More likely that they cleverly released inventory slowly to limit supply, similar to Xbox/playstation rollouts.

Was he aware people died?

Faced with such a choice, would you do the same, or make kiddush on challah/bread?

Was it wrong to assume they had bread on Shabbos? I know they are short sometimes but not that bad.
If you are saying that Klal Yisrael should provide them with kiddush, I agree. That does not, however, answer the question.

I was mostly making a joke, but since lchatchila wine is better than challah I guess they felt that the homeowners would be fine with this, thereby allowing them to be yotzei kiddush al hakos.

Also dont forget the morale aspect of it - most of the soldiers havent had a normal shabbos in almost 2 months

The yeshiva bachurs shach
Yeah, I discussed it with a posek over Shabbos (a Rosh Kollel of a choshen mishpat chaburah for many years) and he said: IF you have 1000% confidence that the wine owner would be maskim, it is still a machlokes (the Shach being the meikil). He didn't have that confidence, either. Don't forget lechora you risk not being yotzei kiddush (versus using bread, you definitely are yotzei).

I feel like the home owner would be glad to have helped out a chayal.

Perhaps. But that only takes you to the machlokes Acharonim, not past it.

This, maybe. The kupah also needs to provide kiddush, not just sustenance.
If you are saying that Klal Yisrael should provide them with kiddush, I agree.
But can an ani (b'oso makom) take lechatchila empowered by this chiyuv?

I recently bought something online, and the delivery of the product was delayed. As such, the merchant gave me a 30% coupon for a future purchase. Is it ethical of me to cancel my original order and then rebuy the same item using the coupon?
